There’s more to your well-being than just training and focusing on healthy foods. Taking a global look at your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is critical for your overall wellness. We like to describe this as self-care. Here are a few of our favorite ways to practice self-care.
We may be following social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t connect with others! Organize a virtual coffee break or happy hour with your your favorite people. Keep the conversation uplifting and tell each other one good thing that happened to you recently. Make plans for when you can be together again and how awesome it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are better prepared to handle this and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are made for!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Create an agenda for your time but give your day some flexibility. For one thing, get up around the same time every morning and get in bed around the same time every night. Outline your intentions for the day and plan out your work tasks, but give yourself some time for your daily workout, a walk outdoors, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too rigid with your schedule that you create extra stress. Maintaining a balance between a program and relaxation will help you have a more useful and rewarding day.
Appreciation is good for us. The more gratitude we display to others during difficult times, the better and stronger we become. Give others grace. One of our favorite ways to exercise gratitude is to call a loved one and let them know how much you love them. A a written note is also a welcome and unexpected surprise that is sure to make someone’s day.
Nothing’s better than spending time outside, basking in the fresh air. Take a walk with your pet or family every day after lunch. Call hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and ask them how they’re doing. Stay in the sun for 10 minutes and practice taking intentional breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy meal time! Try a new method for dinner and make your meals an event. Listen to your favorite album, get the kiddos in on the process, and have a fun time with it!
